Would you believe us if we told you there's a new model of iPad Air on the way? With iOS 8 set to debut this fall, new hardware isn't exactly a surprise, but now we have a few details on what to expect.
AmongTech today reported (via Korean website ETNews) that Apple has "already started production" on what they're calling the iPad Air 2, a followup to last year's fifth-generation model.
Expected for release sometime later this year, the sequel is said to be "ahead of schedule" and comes bearing gifts such as a "drastically improved" eight-megapixel rear camera, a nice bump up from the five-megapixel shooter in the current iPad Air.
Under the hood, the so-called iPad Air 2 is expected to be powered by a new A8 processor said to deliver "50 percent more performance" than the current A7 chip, while keeping the same svelte 7.5mm thin frame.
As a result, the next-generation tablet is expected to offer "much better performance and a slightly bigger display," which all sounds more iterative than innovative — then again, if it ain't broke...
